James A. Hauschildt |
Dr. Hauschildt began as Academic Dean for Saint Luke’s College in June, 2011. His healthcare career started in 1989 in the Emergency Department at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa as an E.D. Technician, while pursuing his undergraduate studies. Upon graduation, he worked in the float-pool as a Registered Nurse at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa working in nearly every clinical area of the hospital.
Serving our nation’s Armed Forces, in 1997 he entered the United States Air Force as a military officer. Eventually attaining the rank of Captain, his work at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas centered primarily around medical-surgical, critical care, and ambulatory nursing, as well as serving in various nursing leadership roles. He provided the framework to develop a training program for newly accessioned nurses to the facility, and was responsible for the computer-based documentation system training for his department. Department of Defense certifications in Healthcare Quality Improvement and Education and Safety Program Administration, as well as a U.S. Air Force certification in Healthcare Training added to his service component.
In 2001, upon completing his military service, he served as a full-time Assistant Professor at Allen College, Waterloo, Iowa while completing his doctoral studies in Education. Primary teaching responsibilities included critical care nursing, as well as courses in diversity and pharmacology. He was noted for having implemented innovative teaching strategies in the critical care nursing course he taught, centered on his dissertation work in the field of inductive learning through use of case study methodology. Beginning in 2004, he transitioned to Adjunct Professor status in the Leadership and Education tracts. His interests and expertise in nursing, education/training, and technology provided various opportunities in the field of nursing and medical informatics as a director and consultant for notable companies like Assessment Technologies, Cerner, Dell Corporation, and Dearborn Advisors.

Dr. Hauschildt has earned degrees from the University of Northern Iowa (Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and B.A. in Psychology); Webster University (M.A. Business Management); University of Kansas (B.S.N.), and Allen Hospital School of Nursing (Nursing Diploma). He maintains an active Registered Nursing license, and a current Board Certification in Nursing Informatics from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
